Smoothies

Ever since my sisters and sister in laws (will just call them all my sisters) and I decided to start blogging I find myself taking pictures of food all the time. And until a few months when we started this, I had no idea blogging was so much fun! There are many recipes I am excited to share with you and I have lots of new recipes to try for the first time.
After the cinnamon swirl bread and calzone posts I figured something like this was in order so here is something I like to make that just makes you feel good!

Every summer when the berries are ripe I like to go to the farms and fill my freezer with all the fresh berries, especially strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. This smoothie is one way I like to use them up. My husband likes his with pineapple so I will cut up a pineapple and freeze it for these also, then add some strawberries and blueberries along with the banana for the fruit.

Smoothies: Makes 4 1/2 to 5 cups. Enough for 4 servings

3 1/2 cups of berries or any fruits, frozen and defrosted slightly in fridge or microwave(about 16 ounces)
1 banana, cut into pieces and frozen
1/2 to 1 cup juice(apple, pineapple, white cranberry, or any fruit juice)
1/2 to 1 cup milk
pinch of salt
1 to 2 tablespoons honey, sugar or brown sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons ground flax seed(optional)

Optional Ingredients: A few ice cubes to thicken, a fresh squeezed orange, 2 to 3 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

In a blender or food processor, combine all ingredients until smooth. Taste and add additional ingredients if desired. Blend again. Serve immediately.

By the way, I love your comments!
Hope you enjoy, Donna

  4. Haven't had a chance to make any of your recipes yet Donna, though they all look yummy but I just had to comment and say you take nice "food pictures". :-) might sound silly but some bloggers don't show their food in the best light...yours looks great! greek pasta salad sounds YUMMY!

  5. Yum! Your picture just made me crave a smoothie! I make them all the time, but for some reason they just don't taste the same drinking them from a tupperware cup. Time to invest in some pretty glasses. :) I can't wait to try your recipe!
